About me
Education - Bsc Honours
I completed my undergraduate honours degree in the biological sciences at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. I have concentrated my degree in the ecology, evolution, and conservation.
Throughout my undergraduate career I developed a passion for marine ecology and conservation. I was lucky to take two undergraduate research classes, where I discovered my passion and talent for research. This has lead me to many incredible opportunities to work alongside so many inspiring scientists who are also completing important work in marine ecology and conservation.

Research at SFU In 2020, I got to work on my first research project under the supervision of Dr. Sherryl Bisgrove investigating the effects of diluted bitumen on two species of seaweed; Fucus distichus and Macrocystis intergrifolia. I was able to participate in field work, laboratory experiments, data collection, and data analysis. During the summer of 2021, I was able to join forces with Dr. Isabelle Côté of the Marine Ecology Lab out of the Earth2Ocean research group to gain credit towards another undergraduate research class. We investigated the impacts of a native barnacle on an invasive marine snail, Batillaria attramentaria. Here I was able to plan a study and be involved in every step of the research process as we are preparing this study for publication. This really solidified my love for science and marine ecology, leading me to transfer into the honours program at SFU and partake in an independent study semester. For my honours project in the spring of 2022, I investigated spatial patterns of animal-mediated nutrients and the effects on growth of the intertidal seaweed Fucus distichus. During the summer of 2022, I conducted research under a NSERC USRA at the Bamfield Marine Science Centre. Here, I examined potential sex biases in experimental designs on studies of invasive green crabs. This study has recently been published in PeerJ. I am currently working on my own research projects under the supervision of Dr. Côté, as well as supporting other students in the lab with their research. I am also Dr. Côté's lab manager, helping with the organization of lab meetings, office operations, and field work planning. |
